I was wondering if you are allowed to edit your own articles already published in a publication owned by someone else?

Say I want to add a link for example, to a source I forgot to mention, or some new statistic relevant to the claims in the article? Is that possible/okay, or do you need to contact the publisher to do this?

Is it also a good idea to make these small changes in already published articles to opt distribution?
