My Writer’s Block Comes From Censorship

Medium is a love-hatred relationship

I took a short break from Medium. I tell myself it’s because I have a life, because my kids want to go to the beach all day, because I have guests living with me. But I know it’s not just about that. I get tired of writing about things that matter less to me. I have a hard time faking it.

Quora was a disaster

I spent about a year writing everything on my mind on Quora, in several languages. I had about 10 000 reads in one language. And then my account got censored in all languages. It was censored in a very sneaky way. First I didn’t get any recommendations from those I was following. Then I wasn’t notified if someone asked me a question, or responded to my comments. Eventually, no one could find me on Quora, and I could’t find the people I liked, unless I remembered their full name by heart, and typed it in. My appeal to the administrators was first met with denial, and then with silence.

I questioned a few forbidden things. Linked to scientific articles. People were liking it. Then I questioned the origin of certain news agencies with great influence. I suppose I started digging too deep. That’s when I was censored. It was a waste of time. Not to me personally, I still grew as a person. But my work didn’t leave a lasting legacy to anyone.

I listened to Biden’s spokeswoman; saying that we need to make sure that people who are censored on one forum, are also silenced on all forums. Isn’t that nice? She threw out a few trigger-words, to make sure you were stimulated and impacted.

Medium is similar

On Medium, I keep a lot of things to myself. I try to abide by the rules, because Medium can also be fun sometimes. We live in an age where things are re-branded all the time. Critical thinking is way to often re-branded as conspiracies. To ridicule those who are paying attention, and lure away those who might take a look.

Free thinking scientists are silenced or re-named fringe. Real thinkers and scientists are being deprived of their licenses all over the world, if they think outside the box. And then, the loss of licenses or positions are used against them, to discredit them as being non-scientific.

The big ones are bought. The same people finance both sides of political and scientific equations. And both sides of war. It keeps people busy.

I keep silent about what matters the most

I, like many others on this forum, write about other things. Even though we know there are way more important things going on. There’s still much to write about. Life is vast and interesting. But when I write about Tasmanian tigers, or painting elephants, or the regeneration of human limbs, it’s just a side note in my life.

At least I am living a full, meaningful life in private, going against the stream. It keeps me poor in general, because the system is rigged that way, but rich in other ways. I hope you realize the limitations Medium represents, as well as the opportunities. In my short time here, I’ve seen some of the new, more interesting individuals, quickly disappear. I respect them for that. The owners of Medium are free to set up their rules, and the participants are free to join or leave.

Are you using your human abilities?

You’re not free. And critical thinking has been removed from the educational institutions a long time ago. You may think you live in a democracy. You don’t. You only get to vote about distractions, things that do not really matter. And the sooner you realize it, the better. And how do you implement direct democracy (I see some people promulgating this as a solution) after generations of media dictatorship brainwashing and public education? Just throw out a triggering word, and masses of people will act on auto-pilot. It does cause me a writer’s block sometimes. But I will be writing about elephants again.

I am sure I will cringe over my own writing in the future. After all, I did have a lousy education. Now I’m trying to get educated later in life. But then again, most of you had a lousy education as well. Old books with real information cost more than you can afford. If you own one, I hope you will transcribe it and put it online. There’s always something you can do, and it starts with the little things. It’s a spiritual battle. That’s it for today, folks.
