The Bosnian Pyramids
The incredible discoveries of Semir Osmanagić
“We have spent the last five years proving that there are pyramids in Bosnia. But we do not intend spending the next hundred years trying to convince everyone. We simply had to move on.” — Semir Osmanagić
Semir Osmanagić, also known as Sam Osmanagich, was born on June 1st 1960 in Zenica, Bosnia. On the internet he is truly a controversial and widely defamed figure, being given titles like “pseudo archaeologist” and “a business-man with no scientific background”.
In his country of origin, on the other hand, Semir Osmanagić is elevated as a cause of national pride for having discovered a complex of unexcavated pyramids on the European continent, which he named “The Valley of the Bosnian Pyramids.”
Family background and education
He was born into quite an extraordinary family, with both his father (Prof. Dr. Muris Osmanagić) and grandfather (Munib Osmanagić) being acknowledged scientists and members of the Yugoslavian Parliament.
Keeping up with family tradition, Semir pursued higher education at the University of Sarajevo and completed two Bachelor Degrees in Political Sciences and Economics, a Masters of Sciences in International Economics and a PhD in Sociology of History, where his PhD thesis was about the Mayan civilization.
Was it written in the stars?
Now, sometimes providence plays its funny game in our lives, where no other explanation can be found. It turns out that stones do speak, although these particular stones had kept quite silent for thousands of years.
After university, Semir had partly left his Mayan Pyramids and started his business career in the mid-1980's at United Metal Industry of Sarajevo. He went on to start his own export-import and construction business in Sarajevo and Split, and then moved to Houston, Texas, eventually starting his own business “Met Company, Inc.”
But this particular day in 2005, Semir was in his car, on his way to the central Bosnian town of Visoko, located about 30 km north-west of the capital Sarajevo. He originally went to this town to visit the local museum, when he, Bosnia’s only expert in unexcavated pyramids, lifted his eyes and to his astonishment noticed that the hill towering over the town of Visoko had a peculiarly regular geometry, with four sides, triangular faces and even distinguished corners…
The amazing discovery
Being a curious scientist, Semir brought out his compass and discovered that each side was perfectly oriented to the cardinal points east, west, north and south. From his experience with thousands of pyramids covered with soil and vegetation in places like Mexico, Guatemala, China and El Salvador, he immediately was convinced that this so called “hill” in Bosnia was actually no hill at all, but an artificial structure; namely the first pyramid in Europe.
Having climbed the hill, he could even see a second hill across the valley with a pyramid structure, even this one perfectly oriented towards the cardinal points of the compass.
The Valley of Pyramids
Since then, a total of five pyramids have been located in the Valley of the Bosnian Pyramids, together with a huge network of underground tunnels and chambers. In total, eleven artificial structures have been found: The Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, the Bosnian Pyramid of Love, the Bosnian Pyramid of the Dragon, the Temple of Mother Earth, Vratnica Tumulus, Dolovi Tumulus, Ginje Tumulus, KTK Tunnels, and the Underground Labyrinth “Ravne” and “Ravne 2” tunnels.
Semir went on to establish a non-profit and non-government Archaeological Park: “Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun Foundation” to pursue the excavation and geo-archaeological work.
The seven elements of change
According to Semir Osmanagić, there are seven elements to his findings that should forever change our view of ancient history..
- These are the first pyramids in Europe.
- They are the largest pyramids on the planet. (The Pyramid of the Sun is over 220 meters tall, while the biggest Egyptian pyramid is 147 meters.)
- These pyramids have the most precise orientation towards the north in the world.
- The analyses of the quality of the rectangular bricks being excavated show that the quality of the bricks are much higher than anything we can build today.
- The radiocarbon data of the organic material found on the blocks, are dated to about 24 800 years of age. This is way older than Egyptian, Mexican or Chinese pyramids.
- Under the pyramids are found the most extensive system of channels and tunnels.
- In the tunnels are found separate ceramic blocks weighing up to 8 tonnes.
In addition, a lot of interesting so called Sacred Geometry has been found on site. There is for example a perfect triangle shape between the three main pyramids, and a second triangle within that triangle. Several spots align with star constellations, and the cycles of the sun and moon.
What the Mayans knew
Osmanagić is convinced that these constructions are telling us a story of high complexity.
“The Mayan culture knew, thousands of years before we did, that the cycle of our solar system was 25920 years. We must start accepting, that there were civilizations before us that in certain aspects were much more advanced than we are today.”
International acknowledgements
Over the years Dr. Semir has gained a lot of attention both nationally and internationally. He is a member of the Archaeological Society of Alexandria (est. 1895) and became the first “honorary citizen” of the town of Visoko in 2006.
The Sarajevo daily newspaper, San, awarded the title of “Man of the Year 2007 in Bosnia-Herzegovina” for his research project, Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids, and for his promotion of Bosnia-Herzegovina in the world.
Osmanagić has been admitted as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in Moscow, one of the most respected scientific institutions in the world with over twenty Nobel-prize winners. He is also a member of the Croatian Academy of Science and Art for Diaspora based in Bazel, Switzerland since 2015.
From excavations to Tesla
Osmanagić has authored fourteen books about ancient civilizations: The Mayan World, Peruvian, Mexican, Pacific, African and ancient European civilizations and pyramids around the World. His books have been published in the United States, Turkey, Slovenia, Serbia, Estonia, Croatia, Turkey, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Serbia, Spain, Kuwait, Italy and Bosnia. He has gained a lot of media exposure internationally as well.
His ideas and theories about the site keep developing, and maybe he draws his inspiration from another extraordinary character from the same region of the world.
“Nikola Tesla was born a couple of hundred kilometers west of the Bosnian pyramids and he proved that non hertzan technology is possible. Now we have this technology in these probably over 25 000 year old pyramids, and it is still working.” — Semir Osmanagić
Rewriting history
No doubt, the discoveries in Visoko have had a massive impact on the people involved, and why the Valley of the Pyramids haven’t had more media attention is beyond me.
And all of this, only because a man with eyes to see, decided to take a drive on a day off and visit a small, local town museum in Visoko in 2005. Many people have since then been volunteering at the archaeological site in Visoko, joining the programs that have been established at the site. Who would have thought that there are not just one, but a whole complex of pyramids on European soil? Why not go and see this wonder for yourself?
